Abstract

Ventricular septal rupture as a consequence of an acute myocardial infarction is a rare complication in the era of percutaneous coronary intervention but severe with high mortality rates. This case refers to a patient admitted to the emergency room with complaints of severe fatigue and signs of ischemia detected on the electrocardiogram performed on admission. Subsequently, a patient underwent a transthoracic echocardiogram, in which a ventricular septal rupture with left-to-right shunt was diagnosed as a result of the acute myocardial infarction. An attempt was made to close the ventricular septal rupture percutaneously, but the procedure was unsuccessful and the patient had an unfavorable evolution.
